The smallest bar carts worth buying

Small carts trade something. That is the honest frame for this whole page: every cart below saves floor space, and every one gives up either depth, load rating or shelf count to do it. What matters is knowing which sacrifice you are making before it arrives.

The pick is the VASAGLE ULRC091A62: 18.4 inches wide with three shelves and 66 lb rated on each. That combination is unusual — narrow carts normally surrender load rating, and this one does not. The sacrifice is depth at 11.8 inches, which rules out a tray.

What "small" means, in numbers

Published widths in our library run from 15 to 33.9 inches. Anything below about 19 inches is a narrow-gap cart: it fits places a normal cart does not, and it holds noticeably less. The middle of the market is 23 to 28 inches.

Width is not the only axis, though. The HOOBRO BF21TC01 is 29.5 inches long and only 11.2 inches deep — not a small cart by width, but the smallest footprint intrusion into a room, because depth is what sticks out into a walkway. If your constraint is a narrow hallway rather than a narrow gap, that is the shape to look for.

The five sacrifices, named

HOOBRO DM27TC01 gives up load rating. 33.1 lb total is the lowest figure in the library — about six full bottles. In exchange it is 15 inches wide and 11 lb, which goes anywhere.

VASAGLE ULRC091A62 gives up depth. 11.8 inches means no tray and a slightly precarious front edge for tall bottles. It keeps three shelves and a full 66 lb rating.

MAHANCRIS RCJ63B01Z gives up a shelf. Two rather than three, at 11 inches deep, 44 lb each. It is the cheapest way into the gold-and-glass look at a small size.

HOOBRO BF21TC01 gives up consistency. Three shelves rated 33, 33 and 22 lb — the mesh shelf is materially weaker, which is about four full bottles. In exchange it is the shallowest cart here at 11.2 inches.

Nathan James Sage gives up usable area. A 23 inch circle holds less than a 23 inch rectangle and a tray will not sit flush. In exchange it has no corners, which in a genuinely narrow room is worth more than the area it costs.

What actually fits on a small cart

An 18 inch shelf takes six 750 ml bottles edge to edge at 2.95 inches diameter, so four arranged normally. Add two rocks glasses at 3.5 inches across and the shelf is full. That is a working bar, but it is the four-bottle version of the starter list rather than the six-bottle one.

Glassware is the bigger constraint. A Libbey Perception coupe is 6 inches tall and 3.75 across the rim; on a narrow cart, four of those occupy most of a shelf. Before you order

Measure the gap in both directions, and measure the walkway that survives afterwards. A small cart in a small room is still an object in a small room.
